Photoredox Chemistry

01

Our group works towards developing sustainable, visible light-mediated strategies for accessing complex and biologically relevant molecular scaffolds. These span regioselective C–H bond functionalizations of heterocycles — thiocyanation, halogenation, acylation; multicomponent reaction; dehydrogenation reaction; singlet oxygen-mediated energy transfer and SET mediated radical cascade cyclizations. Together, these methods open routes to molecules of high synthetic and commercial value.

C-H Bond Functionalization in Heterocycles

02

C–H bonds are abundant but inert, and unlocking them as synthetic handles requires methods that activate them directly. Our group develops copper- and palladium-catalysed strategies — both direct C–H activation and chelation-assisted — for forming C–C, C–N, and C–S bonds in heterocycles and small molecules. We have demonstrated regioselective alkylation, acylation, thioalkylation, thioarylation, and amination, offering a route to late-stage functionalization of complex, biologically active scaffolds.

Medicinal Chemistry

03

We also explore metal-free approaches built on molecular iodine and hypervalent iodine reagents, which provide practical oxidative alternatives for medicinal chemistry. Using these methods, we have assembled a library of oxazolidinones bearing fused heterocyclic C-ring substructures as antibacterial candidates. Together, the protocols developed in our group expand the three-dimensional chemical space available for drug discovery and offer a rapid, efficient, and cost-effective route to potential therapeutic agents.
